Role Overview
The Austin Operations Leadership Development Program (OLDP) is designed to hire external military officers with recent Junior Military Officer (JMO) experience into Applied Materials operations roles. Participants will bring disciplined execution, ownership, judgment under constraints, and front-line leadership experience into a structured development pathway focused on accelerating impact in Austin Operations. As an E4 Technical Program/Project Manager in OLDP, you will rotate through key operations areas, build Applied-specific manufacturing and business context, and deliver measurable project outcomes while preparing for final placement into an Austin Operations role within 6-9 months
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute operations-focused projects with clear deliverables, milestones, risks, and measurable business outcomes.
- Partner with manufacturing, production control, demand management, quality, engineering, supply chain, and program teams to translate operational priorities into executable plans.
- Apply military leadership experience to build trust quickly, lead through ambiguity, and drive accountability in a matrixed manufacturing environment.
- Identify and implement improvements in cost, quality, delivery, safety, productivity, flow, and operational discipline.
- Build Applied-specific knowledge of semiconductor equipment manufacturing, factory operations, customer commitments, and cross-functional decision dynamics.
- Communicate progress, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to operations leaders and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate readiness for final placement into an Austin Operations role in 6-9 months.
Required Qualifications
- Recent Junior Military Officer (JMO) experience with demonstrated leadership of teams, missions, operations, or complex programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical discipline, operations, supply chain, business, or a related field.
- Experience leading cross-functional execution, operating under constraints, managing competing priorities, and making sound decisions with incomplete information.
- Demonstrated ability to build credibility quickly with technical, operational, and front-line teams.
- Strong communication skills, business judgment, ownership mindset, and bias for disciplined execution.
- Ability to work full-time onsite supporting Austin Operations needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, maintenance, logistics, supply chain, aviation, naval, aerospace, semiconductor, industrial, or other complex operational environments.
- Familiarity with Lean, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, project management, or operational excellence methods.
- Experience managing safety, quality, readiness, training, maintenance, logistics, or mission-critical operations.
- Ability to influence without direct authority and navigate a large, matrixed organization.
- Interest in building a long-term career in Applied Materials Operations in Austin.

General Responsibilities for Technical PM
Prepares project plans and drives the project from conception and planning to implementation. Will participate in the development of strategies, processes and resources.
Manages project schedule and task details by utilizing project management tools such as reports, tracking charts, checklist and project scheduling software.
Coordinates allocated resources from within the Division to achieve on-time and within budget performance objectives for the project. Initiates and manages purchase requisitions, and purchase orders.
Drives cost schedule performance of equipment for internal and external customers and vendors worldwide.
Participates on multifunctional design teams comprised of internal, external and/or matrixed headcount to complete projects. Provides technical input to team members to achieve project goals.
Interfaces and coordinates within the division to define project objectives, provide status updates and prepare for release and deployment.
Provides engineering and business process expertise to team and other members on various standard programs / issues.
Identifies and resolves potential complications within the project and develops solutions for resolution.

YesThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
