As a Manufacturing Engineer, you are responsible for developing and maintaining methods, operating sequences, and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. You'll work closely with other engineering functions to coordinate the release of product improvements and new products, and you'll use engineering principles to estimate and reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements. Your expertise in lean principles, automation, and continuous improvement will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and achieving higher levels of productivity and cost-effectiveness. You'll develop and use test procedures, evaluate test results, and assess work methods, procedures, and policies to identify root cause issues and solutions that ensure operational success.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Analyze part returns and propose RCCA for component failures

  • Differentiate fault for component failures between supplier and Applied Materials

  • Analyze, parse and communicate part quality performance in the field / on the tool to the supplier to identify failure mechanism on the part

  • Drive supplier warranty claims related to early life fails due to part quality not meeting specifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 4 - 7 years of related experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Systemic understanding of semiconductor process and parts used in the equipment (multiple platforms)

  • Ability / experience working with technical, field and quality teams both internally and across suppliers

  • Familiarity with Quality Controls methods and RCCA, and Failure Analysis Testing

  • Methodical problem solver with desire to fully understand the problems to be solved

  • Experience with process development using Lean Six Sigma principles

  • Experience with data analysis tools and techniques

  • Strong conceptual knowledge and technical experience for everyday problem-solving on the job   

  • Solid interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly explain complex information to others  

Responsible for review of part returns to determine cause of failure within the Reverse Value Chain (RVC). Interaction required with global teams across multiple disciplines within the company.
