As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop automation scripts and tools using Ansible, Bash, and PowerShell for Linux and Windows platforms.
  • Design and implement utilities for configuration management, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Build solutions for system performance analysis, log parsing, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to integrate compute solutions with storage, network, and virtualization platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards while developing automation and orchestration solutions.
  • Participate in performance benchmarking and optimization for compute workloads.
  • Create production and run procedure documentation, define and qualify full build books, and develop full subsystem Acceptance Test Procedures.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, computer science, information management, software/system engineering, cyber security or mathematics

  • 6–12 years of professional experience in software development and infrastructure-related projects.

  • Core Development Skills:

    • Proficiency in Bash, PowerShell, and Ansible scripting.

    • Strong understanding of Linux and Windows internals.

    Platform Expertise:

    • Linux (Ubuntu): Services troubleshooting, disk/network analysis, log review.

    • Windows Server: Active Directory basics, GPO hierarchy, DNS resolution, user management.

    Infrastructure Awareness:

    • Microsoft Failover Clustering basics and troubleshooting.

    • Virtualization concepts (Proxmox or similar): resource allocation, HA, fault tolerance.

    • Storage fundamentals (NetApp FAS, NAS exports), performance analysis.

    • Networking basics: firewall policies (FortiGate), bandwidth testing (iPerf), packet analysis (Wireshark).

    Containers & Orchestration:

    • Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes concepts, pods, and orchestration tools (RKE, Helm).

    Performance & Monitoring Tools:

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Performance Monitor, Grafana, and Syslog systems.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to CI/CD concepts

  • Ability to analyze logs and troubleshoot across OS, network, and storage layers.

  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices, key business drivers, and how your area of expertise integrates with others  

  • Technical Leadership / Mentorship skills
