Applied Materials is hiring a Payroll Accountant to support payroll for German entities, with the role based at the company’s European Finance Headquarters in Hoofddorp, near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In this position, you will be responsible for payroll accounting s, serving as the main point of contact for employees, government authorities, and the HR department on matters related to payroll tax and social security law. You will also manage the time tracking system, ensuring accurate calculation of time accounts and payroll-related premiums, while maintaining compliance with relevant German regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation and monthly transmission of all payroll-relevant data to the payroll service provider (external)  
  • Review of payroll accounting carried out by the external service provider (all salary components, social security and payroll tax)  
  • Cooperation in all payroll-related matters with internal and external contacts  
  • Provision of information to authorized public bodies (tax office, health insurance companies, employment office, pension insurance institutions, social security institutions and other authorities) 
  • Implementation of changes in wage tax and social security regulations  
  • Ensuring correct reports to the employers' liability insurance association and for the severely disabled person's levy 
  • General ledger account reconciliation of payroll accounts in SAP  
  • Registration and certification as well as the maintenance of master data with the external providers and institutions. Correspondence with health insurance companies, tax offices and any other authorities for payroll related matters. 
  • Participation in payroll projects and initiatives in an international environment 
  • Support with audits (tax office, pension insurance, employers' liability insurance association) 
  • Provision of salary-relevant data for external statistical reporting 
  • Administration of time & absence in the time tracking tool Workday. This includes the review and processing of the data for accuracy and completeness and the correct implementation of the shop agreements, as well as the provision of the relevant overtime balances and premiums for payroll accounting and support of employees with questions regarding time recording. 
  • Supports ad hoc projects, integrations and tasks. 

Personal Skills

  • Self-starter and autonomous (Learning on the Fly; taking ownership)

  • Team player with a ‘can do’ mentality 
  • Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office (primarily Excel) and SAP  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Native German language skills, proficient knowledge of business English 

Education and experience

  • Completed a Finance/Accounting degree at minimum of a Bachelor level or an apprenticeship as a payroll accountant
  • In-depth knowledge of German payroll tax and social security law
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in a similar role
