Display & Flexible Technologies (DFT) at Applied Materials develops and builds advanced large‑format semiconductor processing equipment used to produce virtually every display in the world. The organization operates at the intersection of cutting‑edge engineering, manufacturing, and global customer deployment.
As a highly motivated, self-starter you will be part of a highly collaborative AI adoption environment within DFT where team members work across engineering, product, operations, and field teams. The culture emphasizes creative problem‑solving and teamwork to drive measurable business impact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
AI & Technical Foundation
- Foundational understanding of coding concepts (e.g., Python, SQL, or similar languages)
- Ability to read, understand, and modify code, even if not a primary software developer
- Experience using AI‑assisted tools (e.g., coding copilots, large language models, data analysis notebooks) to accelerate productivity
- Familiarity with data analysis, visualization, or dashboarding concepts
Change Adoption Mindset
- Curiosity about applying AI to improve real workflows and decision‑making
- Comfort experimenting, iterating, and validating AI‑generated outputs
- Awareness of responsible AI practices, including data quality, validation, and limitations
Business / Operations Exposure (Nice to Have)
- Coursework or experience related to: R&D Workflows, Manufacturing, supply chain, or product costing, Quality processes. Process improvement, Lean, or operations analytics.
- Ability to translate technical analysis into actionable business insights
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- Real‑world exposure to advanced semiconductor manufacturing, learning how large‑scale, complex equipment is designed, built, and supported for global customers
- Hands‑on experience applying AI, automation, and data analysis to real engineering, manufacturing, and operations workflows
- Exposure to how a global technology organization evaluates and improves capacity, capabilities, and processes using data‑driven approaches
- End‑to‑end ownership of a meaningful project, from problem definition through implementation by the end of the internship
- Practical experience using AI‑assisted tools responsibly to accelerate analysis, decision‑making, and business impact
REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Cognitive Science, or a related field
- Actual project work on AI, machine learning, or LLM concepts through coursework or internships
- Experience working with structured and unstructured data
- Excellent communication skills

YesThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
