SPG Lab Operations Finance Manager
Applied Materials is seeking a results-driven Lab Operations Finance Manager (M5) to join the SPG US Infrastructure Finance team. This role is the primary finance business partner for Lab Operations, with end-to-end ownership of the financial operating model supporting EPIC and other SPG labs.
The position is focused on operational finance execution, planning, and governance for lab infrastructure, utilization, headcount, operating expenses, and capital investments. The role ensures financial rigor, transparency, and accountability across a growing, capital-intensive lab footprint.
The role reports to the SPG US Infrastructure Sr. Director and partners closely with Lab Operations, Corporate Facilities, and Business Unit stakeholders to enable data-driven decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Finance Leadership
- Serve as the lead finance partner for Lab Operations, driving accountability for total lab spend, utilization, and operational efficiency
- Own and enhance the lab financial operating model across expense, headcount, and capital
- Translate operational drivers into clear financial insights for senior leadership
Planning, Forecasting, and Performance Management
- Lead AOP, quarterly forecast, and long-range planning cycles for lab operations (Opex, Capex, headcount)
- Perform variance analysis, identify key drivers, and recommend corrective actions
- Develop concise performance narratives linking operational activity to financial results
Cost Allocation, Close, and Governance
- Own lab cost allocation and utilization charge models, ensuring transparency and consistency
- Lead monthly close activities, accruals, and variance analysis
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and corporate financial policies
Capital & Infrastructure Finance
- Partner with operations and facilities on financial analysis for lab builds and major infrastructure investments
- Support capital planning, project tracking, and post-investment reviews
- Ensure disciplined financial oversight from approval through execution
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong ability to partner with operations and infrastructure leaders in complex environments
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to synthesize operational and financial data
- Solid understanding of P&L management, cost allocation, and capital accounting
- Clear, executive-level communication skills
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
- Experience & Education
- Extensive finance experience with emphasis on operations, infrastructure, or manufacturing
- Experience supporting lab, R&D, facilities, or capital-intensive operations strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field; MBA preferred

NoThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
