In a strategy function, the team sets the tone and pace for the overall planning process while also building strong partnerships with Business Units, Functions, and the Corporate Strategy group.

The Sr. Technology Strategy Program Manager plays a critical role in defining, operationalizing, and scaling SPG’s technology and business strategy. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, semiconductor technology, data, and execution, helping leadership teams translate long‑term strategic intent into measurable outcomes.

In addition to shaping strategy, this role drives operating plans—owning the planning cadence, performance tracking, and digital enablement of strategic execution—while acting as a thought partner to senior leaders on topline and bottom‑line growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Planning Cadence & Operating Rhythm

  • Help lead the multi‑year strategic planning cycle and annual operating rhythm, setting the tone, pace, and discipline for strategy development across the organization.
  • Project/program manage the end‑to‑end strategy planning process with strong accountability, attention to detail, and execution rigor.
  • Operationalize strategic plans into clear initiatives, milestones, and ownership, tracking execution to closure and surfacing risks and gaps early.
  • Drive annual performance tracking tied to strategic objectives, ensuring alignment between strategy, execution, and business outcomes.

  • Lead development and adoption of AI‑enabled tools to improve strategy planning, tracking, and execution effectiveness.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives that improve transparency, speed, and quality of strategic decision‑making.
  • Develop advanced analytical and visualization tools (e.g., BU product momentum views by customer, technology node, and market segment, such as “bingo charts”) to track business momentum and initiatives.
  • Define and maintain dashboards, metrics, and review mechanisms that enable leadership to assess progress and make timely course corrections.

Strategic Programs & Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Act as a strategic integrator, ensuring alignment between technology roadmaps, product plans, and market opportunities.
  • Support new business and new market development and pathfinding projects with research on market sizing, end‑market dynamics, technology inflections, and competitive landscapes to inform strategic direction.
  • Provide thought leadership that brings new ideas for topline growth, margin expansion, and long‑term competitive advantage.
  • Proliferate modern strategy tools, methods, and thinking across the broader Applied Materials community.

Functional Knowledge

  • Strong foundational knowledge of semiconductor device physics and equipment process technologies, with the aptitude and willingness to continuously learn.
  • In‑depth knowledge and hands‑on experience in at least one semiconductor process development area.
  • Ability to connect process‑level technology understanding to system, customer, and end‑market implications.

Business & Market Expertise

  • Deep understanding of end‑market dynamics and their impact on Applied Materials’ business.
  • Strong command of strategy and marketing frameworks, including market segmentation, portfolio strategy, competitive analysis, and growth planning.
  • Anticipates market, technology, and regulatory trends that influence long‑term strategy and investment decisions.

Leadership

  • Leads complex strategy programs with significant ambiguity, cross‑functional dependency, and executive visibility.
  • Executes with structure, urgency, and minimal oversight while influencing without authority.
  • Builds credibility and alignment across senior technical and business stakeholders.

Problem Solving

  • Solves novel and complex problems with broad business impact.
  • Applies conceptual, systems‑level, and innovative thinking to develop differentiated solutions.
  • Comfortable operating with limited or imperfect information while maintaining execution discipline.
