Applied Materials’ Office of the CTO is looking for an intern to join our Photonics Platform Business group in summer 2026. The position will entail some of or all the following:

  • Follow the fabrication of photonics devices in the labs, ensuring all process steps are completed, troubleshoot any issues that may arise, and analyze the metrology data collected throughout the flow.
  • Analyze metrology and device data from the database, evaluating data trend and correlation. Look for ways to improve and/or automate the process.
  • Improve existing scripts (Matlab, Python and/or JMP) and/or develop new ones, mainly for Data Analysis.

Requirements:

  • Student must be in their last 2 years of a Bachelor’s degree program or a Master’s degree program in Materials Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Student must have good Data Analysis skills and experience, with knowledge of Python, Matlab or JMP.
  • Student must be able to independently research new scientific topics (from papers, conference proceedings, websites, etc.) and write summary reports and prepare presentations.
  • Student must have some basic knowledge of Semiconductor Processing (deposition, lithography, etching, etc.).
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Quick learner, good communication, and good team collaboration skills.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
