The Tax and Treasury is an individual contributor role based in the Korea (Bundang) office, with full accountability for all direct tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing, and treasury matters for Applied Materials’ Korean entities.

This role serves as the primary tax and treasury business partner to local finance, operations, and functional teams, while working closely with APAC and Corporate teams.  The position requires a hands‑on practitioner with strong technical depth in Korea tax, solid tax accounting capability, and the ability to manage audits, advisors, and tax authorities with confidence and professionalism.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Tax Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provision for Korea entities, including identify and analyze book‑tax differences and Korea GAAP income tax treatment, analyze and document Uncertain Tax Positions (FIN 48).
  • Prepare and review income tax and indirect tax balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Manage local statutory tax accounting for inclusion in statutory financial statements and income tax filings.
  • Actively partner with Corporate / APAC Tax on tax accounting policies, judgments, and technical positions.


2. Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and/or review all Korea tax filings, including but not limited to Corporate Income Tax, VAT, Withholding tax, BEPS‑related filings, APA annual compliance reporting.
  • Develop, improve, and maintain robust tax processes and internal controls to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
  • Act as the key liaison with external tax advisors, ensuring work quality, cost effectiveness, and alignment with Applied tax positions.


3. Intercompany & Transfer Pricing

  • Ensure proper execution and governance of intercompany arrangements, supporting achievement of targeted outcome while maintaining compliance.
  • Oversee and monitor intercompany transactions between AMK and other Applied entities, identify and resolve operational or compliance gaps, ensure consistency with intercompany agreements.
  • Support the Global Transfer Pricing team by assisting with Korea transfer pricing documentation, preparing and reviewing local transfer pricing calculations and true‑ups.
  • Lead and coordinate Bilateral APA renewal activities with the National Tax Service (NTS) and IRAS, including data compilation, analysis, and follow‑ups to mitigate transfer pricing risk.


4. Tax Audits, Controversy & Risk Management

  • Lead and coordinate tax audits and examinations.
  • Manage audit strategies, responses, and negotiations, keeping APAC and Global Tax leadership informed of key risks, exposures, and developments.
  • Proactively identify and escalate tax risks and opportunities, providing clear, practical recommendations.


5. Tax Planning & Business Advisory

  • Provide practical, business‑focused tax advice to local finance, operations, and functional teams.
  • Support M&A and restructuring activities, including tax due diligence, integration planning, legal entity rationalization and liquidation projects.
  • Assist Corporate Tax in analyzing and implementing global tax initiatives, policies, and projects, including regulatory changes impacting Korea.


6. Treasury Responsibilities

  • Own day‑to‑day cash management for Korea entities, including cash flow forecasting review, intercompany funding and cash movement requests.
  • Ensure full compliance with Korea Foreign Exchange Transaction Act and related reporting requirements.
  • Manage Corporate Card (AMEX) program administration for Korea entities.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Treasury on funding, controls, and policy alignment.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Law or related field.   
  • 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in Korea Tax, ideally combining Big 4 and in‑house roles.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken Korean and English language.
  • SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience managing tax audits, authority interactions, and external advisors.

  • Solid understanding of Korea GAAP and tax accounting principles.
