This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced global trade compliance professional to join our dynamic team and help to innovate Applied Materials’ compliance program with the evolving regulatory landscape for the semiconductor industry. This position will support all facets of applicable global trade compliance rules on our business operations in China including import and export laws and compliance with applicable U.S. export controls. This role will report to the Vice President, Global Trade and will work collaboratively with the other senior leaders in Global Trade as well as Legal and business operations.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for global import/ export compliance matters and developing and implementing the trade compliance program for China. Develops and sustains trust-based relationships and communication channels with regional executives. Provides Trade Compliance advice to senior business leaders within China. Interacts with Customers and Suppliers on trade compliance and due diligence issues. Works collaboratively with U.S. colleagues in determining trade compliance solutions. Manage regional outside counsel, as needed.

  • Demonstrates broad and comprehensive understanding of U.S. export controls

  • Negotiates and influences the opinions of others at the senior executive level and in external organizations; exercises sensitivity to the audience 
  • Position requires understanding of Applied Materials global Standards of Business Conduct and compliance with these standards at all times. This includes demonstrating the highest level of ethical conduct reflecting Applied Materials' core values.

Core Qualifications

  • 10+ years relevant experience in-house and/or with a top-tier law or consultant
  • Demonstrable subject matter expertise in Chinese and US international trade laws
  • Experience supporting and collaborating with stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Politically savvy with strong executive presence and expertise in regional business norms and practices
  • Ability to influence beyond authority in a complex and matrixed organization
  • Experience working trade compliance issues in a multi-national company, lawfirm or consultancy
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage and prioritize a diverse and complex workload
  • Fluent in both written and spoken Mandarin and English

Preferred Qualifications

  • JD or LLM from an accredited US law school (or equivalent)
