Traineeship Project Description:
This internship provides hands‑on experience in computational chemistry and reaction modelling.
The intern will:
- Learn how computational tools are used to study reaction pathways, molecular behaviour, and catalytic mechanisms. Work will involve using DFT (Density Functional Theory) and related modelling methods to analyse the energetics, structures, and reactivity of both organic and organometallic molecules.
- Assist in building and running simulations, evaluating reaction intermediates and transition states, and interpreting results to understand microkinetic behaviour.
- Use computational modelling software to explore how molecular structure influences reaction steps. The role includes preparing input files, analysing output data, documenting findings, and discussing results with chemists involved in the project.
Desired Skills Required:
- Basic understanding of chemistry
- Interest in DFT modelling, reaction mechanisms, or molecular simulations
- Familiarity with at least one computational chemistry tool (e.g., Gaussian, VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO) is helpful
- Ability to analyse data and follow structured workflows
- Good documentation and scientific curiosity
